We become accustomed to the shape of our lives, to the point it usually takes a challenge or something that ‘seems’ out of our control, to light a fire of conscious change under our collective ass.
This brings me to a movie I love and highly recommend. Midnight in Paris is an American-French 2011 romantic comedy film written and directed by Woody Allen. Even if you are not a fan of the man, this movie is worth viewing. Let’s review… An idealistic, happy go lucky guy (played by Owen Wilson) who romanticizes Paris, experiences a profound transformation during the course of the film. At midnight each night he gains a new perspective on life though the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Salvador Dali, Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, Cole Porter, Pablo Picasso, T.S. Eliot, Josephine Baker, Man Ray, and a host of other classic characters.
It’s a sure bet each of the ‘characters’ featured in this film (although they are no longer with us) experienced insurmountable odds during their lifetime, breaking free of what others may have expected of them. They shaped and crafted their lives into a version of themselves that left an indelible mark in the world.
“Love is the ability and willingness to allow those that you care for to be what they choose for themselves without any insistence that they satisfy you.” – Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
Our lives are molded and shaped from birth. Our mold should fit us as uniquely and perfectly as our fingerprints. Conformity is the order of the day in our world. It keeps us in line and acceptable to society and our cultures at large. Breaking free at a young age is especially difficult, but break free of the mold – we must!
Happiness is waiting at your doorstep, why you waistin’ time? Choices, choices, choices, oh the choices! Get it? Show your happiness when there is no one to witness it. Dance to the music of your soul, otherwise happiness will be elusive. Your soul IS your guidance system that holds the blueprint you laid out for this life. Our choices mount up, and the life we currently experience is in direct correlation to those conscious choices. I am not asking you to believe me, I’m just a girl writing from my own experience. Take it out for a test drive for further evidence and always be responsible for your actions. Blame Game – Over!
